4000 weeks, that’s all you have…

Jack McKiernan

On average we live to see 4000 weeks. Scary right?

“Its not that we have a short time to live, but that we waste a lot of it”.

- Seneca

4000 weeks is roughly 76 years. That’s a little less scary, I know. The message we need to remember is what is above:

Our time is precious DON’T waste it. Nothing is guaranteed.

As a society we spend a lot of time waiting for something to happen, not using our time effectively or putting it off due to the fact that “it isn’t the right time”.

The fact is time doesn’t wait and neither should you.

Change requires action, it’s as simple as that.

When I speak to people about anything that requires immediate effort or commitment you can be sure to hear one of three things:

-     “I haven’t got the time to start that.”

-     “I would love too but *insert excuse*”.

-      “Your mad wasting your time on doing that”

Once you finally start though and you have begun committing something like the hour to your daily gym session or you take an hour a week to check in on your investment portfolio, you start understanding you did have time you just choose to piss your time away doing, well, NOTHING.

Using myself as an example, I always want to start adding stretching and rolling into my daily routine, but I was always putting it off because “where will I find the time”. Once I realised that I had been scrolling through Instagram or playing a game on my phone for 30+ mins, It finally it hit me.

There is the time. Did that happen just once and now I’m able to do the splits, absolutely not, I still fall into the bad habit of doom scrolling. I’m working on It though.

See how that word ‘Habits’ appears everywhere when we talk about being happier, more time efficient, healthier etc etc etc.

Don’t let bad habits steal your time, make you miserable and not use your 4000 weeks to the max.

‘Memento Mori’ is Latin for “remember you have to die” or not as bleak and scary “remember to live”. As horrible as it sounds, we are not here forever. Create routines, habits and relationships that benefit you.

If you want to do something, then do it.

What to try this, this week!

Go on your calculator app and do this equation:

YOUR AGE X 52.176 = How many weeks you’ve lived.

Maybe that is the wake up call you needed…
