The ONE thing you need to succeed…

There isn’t just one thing that leads to success, your right. However, there is ONE thing you need to keep you on the path to succeeding…

“Enjoyment is an incredible energizer to the human spirit.”

- John C Maxwell

What you see today, is a lot of people doing things for the sake of doing things. Things they don’t enjoy. How many times have you ‘Dan’ online start his 8th new get rich scheme? We all know a ‘Dan‘, I’ve probably been him myself in the past.

I can tell you though the reason ‘Dan’ keeps jumping ship is down to wanting ‘easy wins’ and not enjoying the process of whatever it is he thinks will get him rich quick.

This apply to all areas, fitness, work, relationships etc etc.

I think there are FIVE key factors that align with being successful, here they are:

1.   Effort

2.   Discipline

3.   Consistency

4.   Mindfulness

5.   Enjoyment

Why have made the word ‘Enjoyment’ bold I hear you ask. Well, I think without this factor, you will eventually stop turning up.

There are some people a lot smarter than me who have written a paper that agrees!

There is an equation for this that came from a paper at Philippine Normal University. That explains when we enjoy something and we achieve in the thing we enjoy, It builds preservation in our minds, to keep turning up. Here’s an example:

When we enjoy baking (task enjoyment), we will build a positive relationship with it when someone loves our baked goods (achievement motivation), meaning when we do have some inevitable hard times, a soggy bottom for example, we can remember how much we enjoy it and the feeling of doing well, to overcome the bad time (preservation).

But if you do something you dislike/hate everyday your well-being will take a pretty deep dive and I’m sure you wont continue. Not everyone can be David Goggin’s.

Trying new things is part of life and the great experiences we can have.

I think most people can get a good gauge of something after doing it a handful of time, whether it is something they can seem themselves doing long term.

I’m not saying don’t try new things, quite the opposite.

Time is precious, it isn’t something we cannot make back.

Ultimately, enjoy what you do. Cause all the time wasted on things you don’t enjoy or did for the wrong reasons, is never coming back.

What to try this, this week!

Think of 3 things you did and you didn’t enjoy, can you remember how long you lasted at them? Then on the other side of the coin, think of three good things you have done and how long you stuck to them in comparison.

See what the outcome is…
